Christmas was merry and full of family time.
I’m now back in full force from the appendectomy and seizing the days.
One of the partly-self-serving presents I gave my lady was the Sigur Ros movie, Heima. The Icelandic band has been one of my favorites for years. I’m usually listening to their invented lyrics and ethereal sound while post-processing images. The film follows the group as they tour around their motherland giving free, unannounced shows at intimate venues. The photography is beautiful. It’s sold me on traveling to Iceland. Enjoy the trailer:
My 2nd quarter as a member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association yielded another award in this quarter’s competition. The image below from Neal and Dan’s rehearsal won 7th place for the Ceremony Rehearsal category.
And here’s my current price list if anyone is looking for a great wedding photojournalist.
I recently launched a new site: photoprogress.org
It’s been a fun side project of mine for two weeks now–it serves as a daily blog, community, and forum for professional photographers.
It’s updated daily with portfolio samples, news, articles, videos, and anything else relevant to the professional photo world.
Have a look, register, and subscribe if you like it.
I was pleasantly surprised to have David Steadman contact me for another shoot for the UT publication, Focus On Science magazine.
The assignment was for another portrait of a professor. This time it was Lili Qui, a very sweet computer science professor who is working on a solution for wireless networking signals. Instead of having many central routers, her algorithms will allow a computer to pass on the signal, so one connection could serve an entire campus or village.
I took some inspiration from Loretta Lux for the portrait.

apologies for the long stint of being incommunicado.
i had some sudden extreme stomach pain early this week and found out in the emergency room that i had an inflamed appendix that needed to be removed. it was a very smooth and harmonious experience. i was out of the hospital in less than 24 hours and am now recovering for two weeks.
i’m enjoying finally having time to read again–currently working on paul krugman’s conscience of a liberal, and re-reading mary baker eddy’s miscellaneous writings.
it’s refreshing to have some time before the holidays for some meditative and introspective thought.
i’m blessed and grateful for the love and support of my family and friends.
This was my 2nd engagement shoot in two days at the end of a long week but was still full of energy and dynamic images with YuFang and Trent.

I’m excited to be shooting`the wedding of Kate & Greg next September in Boston.
We had a fun time exploring Big Top, the new candy shop on South Congress and other venues along the strip.

KIPP School is preparing under-served students for college. My friend Marisa teaches an art class there every other Saturday and had me come in as a guest lecturer. The amazingly well behaved students were open to hearing about my journey around the world and making a career as a photographer. It was a challenge for me to actually speak about myself and my work and then engage the students for three different classes, but definitely a rewarding challenge.
Quicker load time, revised portfolio, 100% Fair Trade

Last week I was contracted to shoot a full-page portrait of a UT Professor for the magazine, Focus On Science, put out by the College of Natural Sciences. The professor, Dr. Bajaj, is pushing the frontier of 3d visualization of things like molecules and viruses and other fun small stuff.
